INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES
Started with a humble beginning, the
college has grown substantially over the years in terms of
physical and educational aspects. Out of the 75 bighas of land
in its original possession, the college GB donated 30 bighas
to the Public Health Department for construction of a
Civil Hospital. Now the college has 45 bighas of land in its
own campus.
During the forty years of
its existence, the college has made significant progress. The
serene atmosphere with calm, green surroundings, a fishery at
the entrance, boundary walls with a main gate is conducive to
academic pursuits. The science
building “Siddhinath
Sarma Vigyan Bhavan” is a separate building. The science
departments are equipped with adequate laboratory facilities.
All the necessary equipments and apparatus are provided to the
laboratory of each science department. The science departments
have been provided with their own common rooms for teachers.
Moreover, departmental seminar libraries maintained by the
respective departments in the Science stream and a few Arts
departments, provide additional help to the students in
general and the teachers in particular.
The classrooms are adequate for smooth running of
all the classes. Altogether twenty-two subjects and one
self-financing course and one self- financing programme
provide education to the students. Majority of the science
classes are generally held in their respective departments.
The administrative
building is well
established with separate rooms for Principal with sufficient
infrastructure, Vice-Principal, Accounts Branch, Examination
Branch, Cash counter, Superintendent and UGC branch. The
general common room for teachers provides minimum facilities
with a TV set, a few magazines, newspapers, department-wise
selves, clean drinking water facility and other necessary
physical facilities. Moreover, there are news paper and
magazine stands for displaying newspapers and journals for
teachers. Two water tanks are there for running water (one in
the science block and the other near the teachers’ common
room) and three tube wells provide pure drinking water to all.
Separate NCC room,
Yoga and Meditation room and also The Bharat Scouts and Guides
room are there inside the college campus. The Computer Centre
has five computers in a well-maintained laboratory.
Reprographic machine is also kept in a separate room. There is
a sericulture garden behind the science block. A godown and a
chowkidar’s quarter
are there inside the campus. Besides being a classroom, Hall
No. 3 is usually
used as auditorium. A bicycle stand is also there in front of
the college building. The college canteen provides food items
during the college hours.
The
college library is
housed in the ground floor adjacent to the administrative
building. The library remains open from
10.00 AM to 4.00 PM. It has more than 42,000 books including
some valuable collection of Encyclopaedias, literary volumes
of prominent writers, important journals and newspapers are
regularly subscribed. There are separate reading rooms for
teachers and students. Books are kept department wise in
almirahs, book issue counter is well managed with sufficient
staff and also a paper stand is there, where important
newspapers are displayed for students. There is a separate
room for the librarian, where important books and
encyclopaedias are kept along. It is adducible that new books
are added every year to suit requirement of various
departments. It is proposed that computerization of the system
will be introduced from the next year.
One
hostel building for
Tribal girls and one Women Hostel are being constructed. The
construction of both these Hostels are almost complete. It is
expected that the hostels will be ready for students from the
next academic session.
The playground adjacent to
the college building is used for out door games and sports
activities. There are separate common room facilities for both
boys and girls. Yoga and meditation centre is housed on the
top floor of the corridor. Facilities for seasonal games like
volleyball, badminton, cricket etc. are provided during the
college hours.
For augmenting infrastructure, we plan to approach the
following for necessary funding:
(i) University Grants Commission
(ii) MP Local Area Development scheme against specific
proposal like
(a) Construction of Auditorium
(b) Bio-informatics Centre
(iii) MLA Local Area Development fund for computerization of
the science department
What are the physical infrastructure facilities available in
the sports and physical education centre? Give details.
The college does not have a Sports & Physical
Education Centre. However, the playground adjacent to the
campus has been utilised to facilitate students to play and be
trained in football, badminton, volleyball, cricket and
basketball
