3. National Service Scheme (NSS) :
Programme coordinator: Mr. Dinesh Lahkar, lecturer of
Department of Economics
“Not me, but you”
with this motto National Service Scheme (NSS) was opened at
Rangia College along with Arya Vidyapith College and Bajali
College under Gauhati University in 1969. It is worth
mentionable that this is the year of introduction of NSS in
various colleges and Universities in India. Prof. Hirendra
Nath Sarma of Political Science held on the post of first
Programme Officer of the NSS Unit,
Rangia
College. The NSS Unit has already past three long decades
implementing different activities including routinal
programmes. In the initial stage, the unit organized different
socio-economic survey particularly in the economically
backward areas inhabited by scheduled tribes in the
North Kamrup.
It also conducted National Adult Education Programme as per
instruction of the Govt. of India. Road construction and
repairing, tree plantation, cleansing of college campus,
emergency service to the people who succumbed injuries due to
accident, natural calamities were some of the programmes
conducted by the NSS Unit of Rangia College.
The NSS Unit also assisted different programmes organized by
Rangia College Students’ Union particularly in the college
week. The NSS Unit assisted and participated in the programmes
organized by like Blood donation and grouping Camp,
Self-employment Generation Programme, Workshop on Yoga and
Naturopathy, popular talk on Health, Hygiene and Environmental
Pollution etc.

Opening up Rangia College Unit: As evident from the foregoing
discussion, the Bharat Scout & Guides Rangia College Unit was
formed during the later half of the year 2002. In this
connection, the following activities have been taken up till
date.
i) Training of Teachers: As the
Bharat Scout & Guides has the provision of training for male
and female as separate wings, two teachers of the college
volunteered for undergoing the training. Mrs. Kamala Barman,
lecturer in the Deptt. of Geography successfully completed her
training as a Ranger leader in Samata Pathar . Mr. Mahendra
kalita, lecturer in the Deptt. of Physics completed his
training as a Rover leader.
ii) Formation of the Unit: The
process of organizing the female students was initiated with a
formal notice on 20th March 2003. Only a few girl
students first joined the mission. However, after the training
of the Rover leader, few boys also joined. Formal preliminary
training i.e Pravesh training of the cadres was initiated in
the month April 2003. Finally, in courses of training, the
team had grown up to 64 numbers including 32 girls and 32
boys. Formal registration of the unit with the Assam state
Init had been accomplished w.e.f. 1-4-2003.
5. RANGIA COLLEGE SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The science stream of Rangia College
was introduced in 1985. was removed from the original name and
renamed as “Rangia College Science Development
Committee”(RCSDC).
Aims and
Objectives:
(1)To promote science and inculcate the spirit of science
through its multifarious activities.
(2)To provide for a tutorial assistance, close personal
contact with the students and other extra academic
activities to develop the ‘total man’ in the students.
(3)To set up a new system of learning in which the best of the
present system alone is preserved and supplement it with the
ideals of democracy and scientific outlook.
(4)To uplift the different departments of the science stream
through the formation of some societies of their own
departmental interest.
(5)To create a research environment in the minds of the
students through some departmental projects, field study and
scientific survey.
(6)To improve the varied capacity inherent in man such as
skills, talents and creative abilities through different
scientific activities.
(7) To inspire the teachers for doing research activities in
the college as well as in the different fields for the
benefit of the society.
Extension Education Cell (EEC)
Programme Officer: Mr. Dinesh Lahkar,
lecturer of Department of Economics
As the pioneer institute of higher education in the
sub-division the college definitely has got a responsibility
in moulding and shaping the mindset of the people to the
changing scenario,and there can be no two opinions that the
students are the appropriate medium to transmit information
and knowledge. With this idea in view, the Extension Education
Cell of the college has conducted various social activities
under the banner of the NSS unit. It may be mentioned that the
NCC unit has earned accolades in the last several years in
recognition of distinguished services on Republic Day and
Independence Day celebrations.
INFORMATION AND CAREER GIUDANCE CELL(ICGC)
Programme coordinator: Dr.
Hitesh Barman, Department of Chemistry.
ICGC was set up at Rangia College in the year 2001 after
getting the concept of the formation of the cell from Indian
Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, on self
employment opportunities and career guidance .
WOMEN’S STUDIES RESEARCH CELL:

Education.
Women’s Studies research Cell, Rangia College was established
under the aegis of Women’s Studies research Cell, Guwahati
University in 2004 with the aims of creating awareness about
women’s issues amongst the villagers in the periphery of
Rangia township, to make the general public understanding
their problems, makes various awareness drives relating to
dofferent scourges of mandkind namely-Cencer, AIDS, organizes
seminars of socio-economic importance etc. The body comprises
the lecturers of Rangia College with a view to understanding
beyond their bookish knowledge with a practical
implementation. It aims to act locally but think globally
involving dozens of learned persons synchronizing the present
need of the deprived people.
